Brisbane City Council’s

Lord Mayor’s Seniors Cabaret

Dream it, Believe it, Achieve it!

The Lord Mayor's Seniors Cabaret is a free development program that provides Brisbane seniors the opportunity to learn from the best in the biz and develop their creative and artistic talents in a non-competitive and supportive environment.

This year we're celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Seniors Cabaret program.

If you can dream it, you can do it!

It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced performer or you’ve never performed on the stage before, it’s your time to shine!

If you’re a singer, dancer, a vocal group, a choir, a band, you play a musical instrument or you a comedian, we want to hear from you!

No auditions are required.

You can pre-prepare an item to work on or maybe you’d prefer to join in a group masterclass and learn a song or a dance with others, it’s totally your choice.

Throughout July and August, participants will be given the opportunity to work alongside top industry professional mentors in a 3-hour masterclass and then selected participants will be encouraged to perform in a performance in September.

The Lord Mayor’s Seniors Cabaret program is made up of three parts:

1. Masterclasses

If you don't feel confident enough to perform by yourself or in a band/act, we have two group masterclasses where you can learn an item together. These include a 'Song and Dance' item with Maureen Bowra, a 'Group singing' masterclass working with 'Choir of Hard Knocks' founder Jonathon Welch and we also have a 'Ukulele and Voice' masterclass with Vic Kena.

Masterclasses will be held in July and August 2023.

Masterclasses will cover issues such as:

  • overcoming stage fright

  • stage craft

  • vocal technique

  • group singing

  • song and dance

  • a healthy voice

  • less is more

  • how to hit those high notes

You can perform with backing tracks or your own instrument and we also provide a pianist to accompany you if you have your own sheet music.  All performers will be supported with professional sound equipment.

Audiences are welcome to attend any of the masterclasses.

2. Showcases

After completing the masterclasses stage of the program, some participants will have the opportunity to perform in a showcase concert and set the stage alight with their singing, dancing and instrumental skills in various venues across Brisbane. Unfortunately due to the number of people participating, spaces are limited in the showcases stage of the program.

Showcase performances will be held throughout September 2023.

3. Gala Cabaret

Some performers will then have the opportunity to take to the stage in the Lord Mayor’s Seniors Cabaret Gala at Brisbane City Hall on Sunday 22 October 2023.

Please note that registrations have now closed for the 2023 program.
